JMET MBA Exam - Overview
JMET
Exams are conducted for admission to postgraduate Management
degree programmes offered by IISc and IITs in Mumbai,
Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai and Roorkee. Usually
conducted in December, JMET is organized by IITs on
a rotational basis.
JMET
consists of questions that evaluate a candidate’s quantitative,
verbal, logical & data interpretive abilities.
Participating
institutes shortlist candidates on the basis of their
performance in JMET who then undergo institute-specific
selection procedures such as interviews and group discussions.
JMET Exam Test Sites are -
Bangalore,
Hubli, Hyderabad, Surathkal, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Ahmedabad,
Chandigarh, New Delhi, Guwahati, Patna, Bhopal, Indore,
Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Kharagpur, Kolkata,
Raipur, Ranchi, Rourkela, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Coimbatore,
Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchirapalli, Vijayawada,
Agra, Bareilly, Jaipur, Meerut, Noida, Patiala and Roorkee.
JMET Exam Eligibility
Students
with a first class Bachelor's degree in engineering
(or equivalent) or first class Master's degree in Science
are eligible for admission. Students should have secured
min. 60% aggregate marks / min. CGPI of 6.5 out of 10
at the qualifying examination. There is a relaxation
of 5% in marks or equivalent in CGPI for SC/ST candidates.
Work experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Candidates
appearing for the final degree examination can also
apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be admitted
provisionally, provided they complete all requirements
for the qualifying degree at the time of joining the
course.

JMET Test Duration and Pattern
The JMET 2010 will be of 3 hours duration. The test will consist
of 120 questions (objective / multiple choice type) in the
following sections -
- Verbal Communication
- Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Ability
- Data Interpretation
The
JMET question paper consists of only objective type questions.
Candidates have to mark the correct choice by darkening the
appropriate bubble against each question on an Objective Response
Sheet (ORS). There will be negative marking for wrong answers.
The deduction for each wrong answer will be 25% of the allotted
marks.
JMET Exam Fees
Fee
for General Category student applying for the test is Rs.750.
If candidate belongs to the SC/ST category then he can pay
a discounted fee of Rs.350.
JMET Exam Registration Instructions
Important
Instructions for Online Registration are -
- JMET Application Form has to be submitted ONLINE. ONLINE
submission of application can be done by accessing the website
of any of the IITs or IISc. There are two modes of applying
based on the method of fee payment that candidate can choose.
- By Core Banking
- Access the JMET website and register as a user.
If already registered, then sign-in at the website.
- A challan with a unique challan number is generated
for every registered user. Print the generated challan
which has the bank account number and the fee amounts
along with bank charges pre-printed on it.
- Write name and address. Tick the appropriate fee
amount according to your category and take the challan
to any SBI bank branch within India and make the
payment.
- Access the online JMET application website and
fill in the application form by core banking method.
- Make sure that you have digital images of your
photo and signature in .jpg format and less that
150Kb in size. Upload both the photo and the signature
throught the JMET website. Applications with photos
wherein the face is difficult to identify, will
be rejected.
- Take a copy of the paid challan and post the ORIGINAL
PAID COPY to The Chairman, GATE office, IISc, Bangalore-560012.
The application will be confirmed within four working
days after receipt of the challan and other documents
needed to be sent by post.
- By Demand Draft
- Obtain a Demand Draft(DD) corresponding to the
application fee amount (Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PD candidates
and Rs. 750/- for all other candidates) in favour
of "IISc, Bangalore" payable at Bangalore.
- Access the online JMET application website and
enter the requested 6 digit Demand Draft number
and the 9 digit MICR number that is printed on the
DD. Enter also the other relevant JMET 2010 related
data.
- Make sure that you have digital images of your
photo and signature in .jpg format and less that
150Kb in size. Upload both the photo and the signature
throught the JMET website.
- Take a printout of the PDF application form. and
enclose both the application form printout and the
DD in an envelope and send it by speed post
- After receipt of the application and DD by post,
the application will be confirmed. This may take
from 4 days to a week depending on postal delivery.
- The application fee is Rs.350/- for SC/ST/PD candidates
and Rs. 750/- for all other candidates. After applying ONLINE,
there are some documents that candidate will have to post
to the "Chairman, GATE Office, IISc Bangalore-560012". The
details of documents are -
- 1. If photo and signature images are not upload onto
the JMET website, then in either methods, On the printout
of the PDF application form. Paste good quality passport
size photograph at the appropriate place and sign the
application form at the specified places. Enclose the
application form and the stated enclosures in an envelope
and send it by speed post
- In the case of SC/ST category candidates, the SC/ST
caste certificate should be enclosed along with the
printout of the application form (alongwith DD or paid
Challan ) and sent by speed post
- In the case of candidates with Physical Disablility,
the physical disability certificate and Amanuesis requirement
letter should be enclosed along with the printout of
the application form (alongwith DD or paid Challan)
and sent by speed post
- Incomplete Application Forms will be rejected without
further information to the candidate.
- GATE Office, IISc Bangalore will post the JMET Admit Card
by speed post to the address given in the application form
by last week of October
- Check application status at the "app_status" tab of the
web site after 1st week of November
- If candidate does not receive admit card by 1st week of
December, should contact the GATE Office, IISc Bangalore
or visit the website to know the Registration Number and
the address of the test centre.
JMET Exam Testing Process
- Documents Required: Candidate must bring Admit Card, non-expired
form of photo identification, proof of SC/ST eligibility
and Voucher. Acceptable forms of photo identification are
Driver's license, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, College
ID, Employee identification card, or a notarized Affidavit
with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth and Residential Address.
- Candidate will not be permitted to carry any personal
items to the test centre.
JMET Results and Score
JMET
results will be announced on 1st week of January at GATE offices
of IISc/IITs. It will also be available on the websites of
IISc/IITs. The JMET website will provide the JMET scores to
both qualified and non-qualified candidates. JMET score is
valid for one year from the date of announcement of the results.
Scorecard
will be sent only to the qualified candidates. No information
will be sent to candidates who are not qualified. The scorecard
will indicate All India Rank, total marks and the marks obtained
in each of the four sub-categories viz. Verbal communication,
Logical reasoning, Quantitative ability and Data interpretation.
